Success is What Happens Outside Your Comfort Zone
We all know the saying ‘If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get more of what you’ve always got’. Nothing new, in other words.
That is especially true for most people breaking into the world of Internet Marketing. There will be aspects that you may be comfortable with – largely because you know what to do or understand the tasks involved. Or it may be an aspect that you really enjoy doing, because you are good at it. You will happily tackle these things again and again. But doing those things and avoiding others is not going to add to your bank balance.
If you are looking to do better than you are already doing there are things that like it or not, have to be tackled as they are essential to success. They have to be done and they take you way outside your comfort zone.
Probable firsts for a lot of people would include things like; doing your first voice recording, making your first video, social media interaction. And God forbid you should actually have to mess with some html code. If any of these apply to you, know that you are not alone. You are in good company.
But look at what people are achieving outside your comfort zone. There’s a new world waiting for you. In order to get there you have to cross that line and step outside of your comfort zone.
What holds most people back is fear. You fear the unfamiliar, the unknown. Your comfort zone is what you are familiar with and what you know.
Stick a Toe in the Water
Make a list of all the things you know you are afraid to tackle. Add to that the things that just make you feel uncomfortable at the thought of doing. Now add to that the things you have just been putting off or procrastinating over. Very often the things we’ve been putting off make us feel uncomfortable, we maybe just haven’t recognized them as such.
Now pick one thing from the list. Make it an easy one, one that you think, when compared to the others on your list, ‘I can actually do that’. Set aside a dedicated time – no interruptions or excuses for stopping – and just do it!
When you have succeeded, which you will, congratulate and reward yourself. And make that a big reward. Then ‘pick-a-thing’, face your fear, and do it again because you now know you can.
Henry Ford said it best when he said:
One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his greatest surprises, is to find that he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.
It feels good doesn’t it?
